UNECE Launches Environmental Performance Review of Morocco

The UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) has announced it will carry out an Environmental Performance Review (EPR) of Morocco, at the request of the Moroccan Government.

Issue areas that will be focused on include air pollution, water and waste management, as well as biodiversity and protected areas.

UNECE20 March 2012: The UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) has announced it will carry out an Environmental Performance Review (EPR) of Morocco, at the request of the Moroccan Government. The review will focus on air pollution, water and waste management, and biodiversity and protected areas, among other issues.

The review, which will be carried out in collaboration with the UN Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), will take place in September 2012, while the report will be concluded in 2013.

It is the first UNECE EPR to be conducted outside of the UNECE region. The review will focus on providing recommendations to improve policymaking, planning and implementation, and financing projects and programmes, among others. [UNECE Press Release]
