He called for a stronger focus on the housing sector in the post-Kyoto agreement of UNFCCC COP-15.23 September 2009: An all-day seminar on climate neutral cities was organized during the 70th session of the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Committee on Housing and Land Management, which convened from 23-25 September 2009, in Geneva, Switzerland.

Participants addressed city planning, land-use management and the built environment, and discussed ways to integrate the results of the seminar into the Committee’s work. Participants agreed to organize a ministerial meeting in September 2010, in conjunction with the 71st session of the Committee, to consider major emerging issues that are not covered in the current Committee’s strategy, such as climate change and the financial crisis.
