Uneca1 December: The African Union Commission (AUC) and the UN Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) are meeting to discuss improved cooperation in the area of climate change, among other areas. The first meeting of the AUC-UNECA Partners Dialogue is being held from 1-3 December 2009, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, with a session focusing on climate change and food security.
At the opening of the meeting, UNECA Executive Secretary Abdoulie Janneh recommended to “swiftly and collectively reach a post-Kyoto agreement in Copenhagen,” although he noted that the signals are “not so encouraging,” and expressed hope that joint efforts will bring coherence and clarity in Africa’s cooperation with the international community, including on climate change.
