7 May 2010: The UN Development Programme (UNDP), the International Energy Agency (IEA) and the UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) have collaborated on a one-day workshop titled “Towards Universal Energy Access: MDGs and Beyond,” held in Paris, France, on 7 May 2010.
The workshop gathered experts on economic development, energy, finance and public policy to discuss energy poverty and other development-related energy issues. The outputs of the meeting will feed into the 2010 edition of the IEA’s flagship publication, the World Energy Outlook, which will focus on the role of energy for development. The aim of this special focus is to highlight energy’s importance for achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MGDs) ahead of the MGD Review Summit in September 2010. [UNDP Press Release]
