December 2009: The UN Development Programme (UNDP) has released the second issue of its Adaptation Bulletin, a quarterly publication, highlighting the support the organization is providing to the development of national, sub-national and community level capacities to adapt and build their resilience against climate change risks. This issue focuses on the countries that are receiving support through the thematic window on environment and climate change of the UNDP-Spain Millennium Development Goals Achievement Fund (MDG-F), and UNDP’s support to community-based adaptation (CBA).

There are currently 17 UN Joint Programmes funded under the MDG-F, distributed across Afghanistan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, China, Colombia, Ecuador, Egypt, Ethiopia, Guatemala, Jordan, Mauritania, Mozambique, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, the Philippines, Senegal and Turkey, and totaling almost 90 million dollars. CBA activities are a growing area for UNDP’s work, through the support provided by the Small Grants Programme (SGP) and financing from the GEF. Currently, UNDP is supporting community-led initiatives in ten countries including Bangladesh, Bolivia, Guatemala, Jamaica, Kazakhstan, Morocco, Namibia, Niger, Samoa and Viet Nam. With funding from Australia and New Zealand, UNDP is supporting CBA activities in the Mekong and Southeast Asia region. [UNDP Climate Change Adaptation Newsletter]
