UNDP-GEF Annual Report Provides Performance Ratings of US$10.35 Billion in Projects

The UN Development Programme Global Environmental Finance Unit (UNDP-GEF) released its seventh annual performance report, providing progress and quality ratings of environment and sustainable development projects to the value of US$10.35 billion.

UNDP - GEF22 May 2015: The UN Development Programme Global Environmental Finance Unit (UNDP-GEF) released its seventh annual performance report, providing progress and quality ratings of environment and sustainable development projects to the value of US$10.35 billion.

UNDP is an implementing partner of the Global Environment Facility (GEF). Besides managing a GEF trust fund, the UNDP-GEF Unit oversees funds for: implementation of the Nagoya Protocol; implementation of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC); support for Least Developed Countries (LDCs); and adaptation to climate change.

The report provides an overview of 526 projects in 132 countries, representing a total grant investment of US$1.99 billion. Co-financing contributions to these projects make up a total of US$10.35 billion in funds that are subject to the performance rating in this report.

The work funded through the UNDP-GEF Unit includes projects on protected areas (PAs), livestock conservation, early warning systems (EWS), reforestation, combating the illegal trade in wildlife and energy efficiency, among many other issues. The report includes a section on ‘Gender in Action,’ which details how gender considerations have been integrated into many of the projects.

The report highlights the alignment of UNDP-GEF work with global policy and programme priorities, including specific Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
