29 November 2010: The UN Development Programme (UNDP) Cyprus office has reported on the implementation of sustainability in its programmes and day-to-day operations.

In particular, UNDP Cyprus outlines the enforcement of environmental impact guidelines in projects carried out by UNDP’s peace building project, Action for Cooperation and Trust (ACT), which aims to create opportunities for Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots to work together on projects for their mutual benefit. In addition to implementing an environmental impact assessment and mitigation plan, the ACT office has set up recycling schemes for paper, plastic and cans, while raising the awareness of the staff.

Furthermore, the office has participated in several tree planting events and has already contributed 30,000 trees to the “billion tree” campaign of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP). [Greening the Blue Press Release]
