23 September 2017: The UN Development Programme (UNDP) and the UN SDG Action campaign launched a ‘MY World’ survey with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). The survey is assessing people’s level of awareness of the ASEAN Community Vision and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The ASEAN MY World survey invites participants to provide an impression of progress or setbacks on the Goals.

UNDP and the UN SDG Action campaign launched the survey in New York, US, in the presence of foreign affairs ministers from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) on the 50th anniversary of ASEAN. The ASEAN MY World survey invites participants to prioritize six of the 17 SDGs that they consider most important and to provide an impression of progress or setbacks with regard to those Goals. The survey seeks to capture peoples’ aspirations towards the ASEAN Community Vision and the SDGs with the aim of helping to shape policy recommendations and plans of action for ASEAN Member States to achieve the 2030 Agenda and the ASEAN vision.

Speaking at the launch, UNDP Administrator Achim Steiner stated that the ASEAN Community Vision and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development have certain principles and values in common. He noted that, while multi-stakeholder participation and inclusion are drivers of success, there is still a need to increase public awareness and ownership of these values. Steiner highlighted UNDP’s support for ASEAN in the implementation of the ASEAN-UN Plan of Action (2016-2020), including on peace and political security, good governance, human rights and resilience. In particular, he mentioned the joint project for ‘Reducing Pollution and Preserving Environmental Flows in the East Asian Seas through the Implementation of Integrated River Basin Management in Eight ASEAN Countries’, and UNDP’s support for several ASEAN member states to prepare their Voluntary National Reviews (VNRs) at the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF).

UNDP and partners initially launched the ‘MY World’ website to capture priorities for the post-2015 development agenda in 2012. The MY World survey became the largest survey ever conducted by the UN, with over 10 million people sharing their six priorities for a better life. In 2016, the UN SDG Action campaign, UNDP, the Overseas Development Institute (ODI) and UN Global Pulse launched the next phase of MY World to report on SDG progress and mobilize and build dialogue.[UNDP Administrator Remarks] [ASEAN MyWorld Survey] [SDG Knowledge Hub Story on MY World Website Launch] [SDG Knowledge Hub Story on MY World Report] [SDG Knowledge Hub Story on MY World Second Phase]
