The World We Want4 December 2013: The UN’s One Secretariat on Post-2015 has announced a new round of consultations on the post-2015 development agenda, which will take place from January to December 2014. The consultations will include national, regional and global discussions, and place emphasis on “how to make the agenda work.”

According to a concept note, the consultations will serve to deepen intergovernmental processes during the 68th and 69th Sessions of the UN General Assembly (UNGA) by enabling diverse stakeholders to voice analysis, aspirations and proposals for the post-2015 agenda.

While the first stage of consultations, which took place in 2012 and 2013 and involved more than 1.3 million people, focused on potential issues and areas for inclusion in the post-2015 agenda, the second stage will explore means of implementation. Proposed areas for consultation are: localizing the post-2015 agenda; helping to strengthen capacities and institutions; participatory monitoring, existing and new forms of accountability; partnerships with civil society and other actors; partnerships with the private sector; and culture and development.

The UN Development Group (UNDG) intends to identify two to three leading agencies and stakeholders for each issue. Five to seven countries per theme will be selected to hold national consultations. UNDG also will continue to maintain The World We Want Web Platform to provide an open forum for discussion on the post-2015 agenda.

The consultation plans were announced in the One Secretariat’s ‘The Future of Development: The Post-2015 Development Agenda Newsletter.’ The newsletter also notes the launch of a TeamWorks consultation space, featuring links to blogs, events, news, publications, and national and thematic consultations on the post-2015 agenda.
