5 October 2009: Addressing the UN General Assembly’s (UNGA) Second Committee, Sha Zukang, Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs, underscored the global economic crisis and climate change as key threats to development, peace, security and human rights.

He called for sustainable and integrated recovery supporting long-term investments in clean energy, food security and poverty reduction in developing countries. Underscoring the need to complete the Doha round of trade negotiations in 2010 with a development perspective, he also advocated overcoming “hurdles to climate change-related technology transfer posed by intellectual property rights.”
