UNCTAD XIII to Focus on “Development-centered Globalization”

UNCTAD members decided that the 13th UNCTAD Conference will focus on the theme "Development-centered Globalization: Towards Inclusive and Sustainable Growth and Development." Several subthemes also were selected.

15 April 2011: The UN Conference on Trade and Development has announced that its 13th Conference (UNCTAD XIII), convening from 21-26 April 2012 in Doha, Qatar, will focus on the theme “Development-centered Globalization: Towards Inclusive and Sustainable Growth and Development.”

Member States selected the theme during an extended executive session of the UNCTAD Trade and Development Board on 14 April 2011. The sub-themes of UNCTAD XIII will be: enhancing the enabling economic environment at all levels in support of inclusive and sustainable development; strengthening all forms of cooperation and partnerships for trade and development, including North-South, South-South and triangular cooperation; addressing persistent and emerging development challenges as related to their implications for trade and development and interrelated issues in the areas of finance, technology, investment and sustainable development; and promoting investment, trade, entrepreneurship and related development policies to foster sustained economic growth for sustainable and inclusive development.

The theme also will guide development of UNCTAD’s work programme for 2012-2016. [UNCTAD Press Release]
