UNCTAD High-level Event Calls for Active Policies for Gender-sensitive Development

Participants at a high-level event on Inclusive and Gender-sensitive Development Paths, held at the Margins of UNCTAD XIII, discussed policy options to increase gender equality in the context of development and globalization.

The event also launched several activities supporting gender-related activities.

22 April 2012: A High-level Event on Women in Development, held at the margins of the 13th session of the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD XIII), discussed policies that would make women active contributors to and beneficiaries from development in their countries.

The event considered inclusive and gender-sensitive development paths as tool to narrow the gender gap in development. Participants attended four thematic sessions on: the role of gender in macro-economic policies; trade, poverty and gender; agriculture, food security, intellectual property and gender considerations; and equality of opportunity versus equality of outcome.
