UNCSD Bureau, ECOSOC Bureau Discuss Implementation Role of ECOSOC

ECOSOC President Miloš Koterec said the Council planned to hold hearings with NGOs and the private sector on their role at the Conference, messages from which would be presented at the Development Cooperation Forum (DCF), and that part of the ECOSOC substantive session would be devoted to Rio+20.

He sought input on ECOSOC's potential role in implementing the UNCSD outcome, and said ECOSOC's Bureau soon would issue a proposal on this matter.

RIO+20 - The Future We Want27 March 2012: The Bureau of the Preparatory Process for the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20) held a joint meeting with the Bureau of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), as well as a regular meeting covering preparations for Rio+20.

At the 24th meeting of the Bureau, which was held on 27 March 2012, in New York, US, ECOSOC President Miloš Koterec discussed ECOSOC’s plans ahead of Rio+20. The Council planned to hold hearings with NGOs and the private sector on their role at the Conference, messages from which would be presented at the Development Cooperation Forum (DCF). In addition, part of the ECOSOC substantive session would be devoted to Rio+20.

Koterec sought input on ECOSOC’s potential role in implementing the UNCSD outcome, and noted his preference for a sustainable development framework guiding the work of the whole ECOSOC. ECOSOC’s Bureau soon would issue a proposal on this matter, Koterec said.

During the regular part of the meeting, UNCSD Bureau members discussed the state of the negotiation text, the co-Chairs’ role in the negotiations, and obtaining feedback on the text from delegations and groups. [Minutes from UNCSD Bureau Meeting]
