UNCCD Names New Drylands Ambassador

The Executive Secretary of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), Luc Gnacadja, has named Fangfei Liu, a Chinese television presenter, a Drylands Ambassador for the Convention.

fangfei-liu13 May 2013: The Executive Secretary of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), Luc Gnacadja, has named Fangfei Liu, a Chinese television presenter, a Drylands Ambassador for the Convention.

Liu has worked for the national television station CCTV, hosting programmes including ‘The Cross over South and North Poles’ and ‘Attend to Africa.’ She has also engaged in other voluntary and awareness-raising projects, including the ‘green plan of handkerchief’ campaign in China, which donates the proceeds from the sale of handkerchiefs to tree planting.

The UNCCD has appointed a number of Drylands Ambassadors to help raise international awareness about land degradation issues. Other appointees include: Ms. Universe 2011 Leila Lopes; Dennis Garrity, former Director General of the World Agroforestry Centre; and Jeffrey Sachs.
