14 December 2012: The intersessional working group (IWG) to prepare the mid-term evaluation of the ten-year strategy for the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) has launched an online survey, to collect information for the mid-term evaluation.

The information will be used to help the IWG identify the benefits and challenges of the implementation of the strategy so far, and to support the decisions of the Conference of the Parties (COP) on effective and targeted next steps.

Focal points are invited to complete the survey by 31 January 2013. The survey questions are available in all six UN languages.

To date, the IWG has met twice. At the first meeting, on 26-27 March 2012, in Bonn, Germany, the IWG appointed Chencho Norbu (Bhutan) as the Chair, and Barbara De Rosa-Joynt (US) as the Vice-Chair. At its second meeting, which took place from 31 October-3 November 2012, in Bonn, the IWG: considered the methodology of the evaluation and the documentation for each of the six evaluation components; and produced an inventory of the most essential data to be used for the analysis for each component. A third meeting is expected to convene in April 2013. [UNCCD Press Release] [IWG Webpage and Links to the Survey]
