UNCCD Invites Input on the Organization of International Interdisciplinary Scientific Advice

The Secretariat of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) is inviting parties, the scientific community and relevant stakeholders to provide input into an assessment of how to organize international, interdisciplinary scientific advice, taking into account the need to ensure transparency and geographical balance.

UNCCD13 July 2011: The Secretariat of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) is inviting stakeholders to participate in an e-survey on how to organize international interdisciplinary scientific advice to the UNCCD.
The survey is carried out further to decision 18/COP.9 of the Conference of the Parties (COP) to the UNCCD, which requests the Committee on Science and Technology (CST) to conduct an assessment of how to organize international, interdisciplinary scientific advice, taking into account the need to ensure transparency and geographical balance. The CST was moreover requested to consider options for determining agreed channels for consideration of the advice in the Convention process. The COP invited parties, the scientific community and relevant stakeholders to provide input into the assessment process. The results of the survey, which is open until 10 August 2011, will be presented at the tenth session of the Committee on Science and Technology during COP 10, scheduled to take place from 10-21 October 2011, in Changwon, Republic of Korea.
