story highlights

All comments must be received via the web feedback system, and the white paper will be held open for review until 30 April 2011.

31 March 2011: The Secretariat of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) has invited stakeholders to provide comments on the “white paper” for the refinement of the UNCCD set of impact indicators.

The white paper is based on the results of a review of technical documents and the scientific literature, and synthesizes a process involving over 64 technical experts from the scientific community from September 2010 to January 2011. The paper includes: a refined conceptual framework; a refinement of the indicator set hierarchy; metrics/proxies proposed to measure them; and a set of general proposals designed to guide refinement and next steps. It is expected that all stakeholders interested in developing and monitoring impact indicators related to desertification, land degradation and drought (DLDD) issues provide feedback and suggestions for further fine-tuning of the white paper.

Stakeholders interested in providing comments are invited to register for the e-consultation at http://eforum.unccd.int. All comments must be received via the web feedback system that is accessed through the above link. The white paper will be held open for review until 30 April 2011.
