30 March 2010: The UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) Secretariat has discussed ways to support the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) in its efforts to promote and implement policies for sustainable land management in the face of challenges posed by climate change and prolonged droughts.
On 26 March 2010, Edwin Carrington, CARICOM Secretary-General, met with Luc Gnacadja, UNCCD Executive Secretary, to discuss a course of action in the implementation of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed by CARICOM and UNCCD Secretariats in July 2002. Gnacadja expressed the UNCCD Secretariat’s willingness to work with CARICOM to build its resilience to natural disasters and other threats associated with climate change. [CARICOM Press Release]
