UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon21 September 2009: On the eve of the Summit on Climate Change, to be held on 22 September 2009, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon underscored the urgent need for collective action to save the planet.

Kicking off the “Climate Week NYC,” Secretary-General Ban called on civil society, faith groups, business and governments and join forces to combat climate change. The Summit is expected to be attended by approximately 100 heads of State and Government. It seeks to mobilize political momentum to “accelerate the pace of negotiations and help strengthen the ambition of what is on offer,” according to the Secretary-General. [UN press release]
