24 July 2009: In a message delivered to UN Global Compact Board members meeting in New York, US, by his Deputy Chef de Cabinet, Kim Won-soo, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon noted that the Compact makes “a critical contribution to advancing the UN agenda,” in particular in tackling climate change.
He underscored the role of the private sector in facilitating the transition to a low-carbon economy and welcomed the Board’s decision to establish a working group on the environment. He also urged the Board members to join the UN’s “Seal the Deal!” campaign for a fair, balanced and effective climate agreement in Copenhagen. [UN press release]
