Climateusg_3The UN Secretary-General’s report entitled ‘Overview of United Nations activities in relation to climate change (A/62/644)’ has been released in advance of the General Assembly’s High Level Thematic debate on climate change, to be held in February 2008.

The Secretary-General’s report was prepared in pursuance of General Assembly resolution 62/8, which requested a comprehensive report providing an overview of the activities of the UN system in relation to climate change.
The report notes that an inclusive and coherent approach to climate change would enable the UN system to provide support for the negotiations on an international agreement on an effective post-2012 climate change framework, and provide a multisectoral mechanism through which to deliver on future agreements, as well as improve implementation of existing mandates.
