15 December 2008: In a message to mark the celebration of the UN Day for South-South Cooperation, observed on 19 December, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon stated that the global financial, food and climate change crises call for greater cooperation among developing countries.

He underlined that South-South cooperation “can also play a significant role in the fight against climate change,” highlighting the adoption by many developing countries of low-carbon development paths. He suggested that countries share these experiences, policies and adaptation technologies. [UN Press Release]
