2008: During his 15-16 July 2008 visit to Germany, UN Secretary-General Ban
Ki-moon met with Chancellor Angela Merkel, to whom he expressed thanks for her country’s
overall cooperation and support to the UN. Ban also expressed his appreciation
to Merkel for her “personal leadership” in “advancing the global agenda,
