15 September 2008: Noting that media interest in climate
change issues has been fading since the release of the Intergovernmental Panel
on Climate Change’s Fourth Assessment Report in November 2008, UN
Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has stressed the importance of cooperation among
all sectors of society to tackle this challenge.

Speaking at the Holy Family
Church in New York, he stated that the current effects of climate change are
“worse than most projections” and lead to humanitarian crises. He emphasized that
any solution to climate change should be global, and governments will need the
help of the faith community, non-governmental organizations, the private sector
and others in their efforts to address “the global challenges of our time.” [UN
