UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has appointed Amina J.
Mohammed of Nigeria as his Special Adviser on Post-2015 Development Planning.
Her past experience includes serving as the Senior Special Assistant to the President of Nigeria on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
7 June 2012: UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has appointed Amina J. Mohammed (Nigeria) as his Special Adviser on Post-2015 Development Planning.
According to the UN’s biographical note, Mohammed has over 30 years of experience as a development practitioner in the public and private sectors, as well as in civil society. She has served as the Senior Special Assistant to the President of Nigeria on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
Mohammed is currently the Chief Executive Officer and founder of the Center for Development Policy Solutions. She is also an Adjunct Professor at Columbia University, New York, US. She also serves on numerous international advisory panels and boards, including to the Global Development Program of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the UN Secretary-General’s High-level Panel on Global Sustainability (GSP).
On 9 May 2012, Ban announced that, in addition to creating a high-level panel of eminent persons to advise on the post-2015 development agenda, he would soon appoint a new Assistant Secretary-General (ASG) for post-2015 development planning who would be responsible for coordinating “constituencies and work streams” inside and outside the UN system.
