7 May 2010: The UN Secretary-General recently met with Bolivian President Evo Morales Ayma and representatives from civil society organizations that participated in the People’s World Conference on Climate Change and the Rights of Mother Earth, which convened in Cochabamba, Bolivia, from 19-22 April 2010.

Underlining the need for the voices of civil society and indigenous peoples to be heard, Ban Ki-moon welcomed all initiatives that can contribute to a comprehensive, equitable and effective global response to climate change. He expressed his appreciation for the fact that the conclusions of the Cochabamba Conference had been submitted to the UNFCCC, which he said is the one universal forum where all nations and peoples come together to resolve climate issues.
