15 December 2016: The UN SDG Action Campaign is establishing a Global Campaign Center in Bonn, Germany, which will provide big data analysis and expertise and advocacy support to UN Member States and partners around the world. A public announcement of the UN SDG Action Campaign, supported by the Government of Germany, will take place in the World Conference Center from 1-2 March 2017.

The UN SDG Action Campaign has a mandate to foster buy-in of the SDGs among all stakeholders, according to its Global Director Mitchell Toomey. He said the Center will equip the Campaign to deliver on this mandate, as well as “facilitate mechanisms for public engagement in SDGs participatory monitoring and accountability, and create an open and inclusive SDG people’s action platform.” The Center will also incubate and test out innovative efforts related to SDG implementation. The Center features data analytics visualization, the My World 2030 survey tracking progress on the SDGs, and an SDG photo exhibit. Virtual reality film screenings show human stories behind development challenges.

The Campaign is an initiative by the UN Secretary-General to support the entire UN system and its Member States on public engagement and advocacy related to SDG implementation. UN Development Programme (UNDP) administers the Campaign. The Center is located in Haus Carstanjen, where the Knowledge Center for Sustainable Development of the UN System Staff College has its office.
