The UN Collaborative Programme on Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation in Developing Countries (UN-REDD) has released the February-March edition of its newsletter, highlighting activities in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Indonesia, Pakistan, Panama, Solomon Islands and Tanzania.
28 March 2013: The UN Collaborative Programme on Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation in Developing Countries (UN-REDD) has released the February-March edition of its newsletter, highlighting activities in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Indonesia, Pakistan, Panama, Solomon Islands and Tanzania.
In particular, the newsletter reports on progress by the Solomon Islands REDD+ Taskforce in preparing its National REDD+ roadmap and Pakistan’s Ministry of Climate Change in launching its roadmap. The newsletter also highlights the visit of representatives from Tanzania to the DRC in order to share lessons learned on REDD+ forest monitoring.
The newsletter features an article on the launch of the independent evaluation of the REDD+ programme in Panama, following concerns raised by Panama’s National Coordinating Body of Indigenous Peoples. Additional stories highlight activities in support of building technical expertise on REDD+ in Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, Ecuador, Nigeria, Tanzania and Zambia.
The newsletter also reports on the outcomes of a workshop highlighting the importance of land tenure for REDD+, and the results of studies on anti-corruption, the links between REDD+ and FLEGT, and the economics of forest carbon projects.
