unredd1 August 2014: The UN Collaborative Programme on Reducing Emissions from Deforestation (UN-REDD) released the August 2014 edition of its newsletter, highlighting a regional workshop on National REDD+ Strategies for Latin America and the Caribbean.

The workshop, which convened from 30 July-1 August, facilitated broad participation through a live webcast and an online question and answer facility to complement physical participation in the meeting, which emphasized South-South cooperation and learning.

The newsletter also reports on the implementation of the REDD+ readiness roadmap in Solomon Islands as well as the launch of guidelines on stakeholder engagement, safeguards, and measurement, reporting and verification (MRV). Also noted is the testing of national guidelines on Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC) in Papua New Guinea as well as training on forest data collection in Viet Nam.

The bulletin also includes reports on a regional workshop on allometric equations in South Asia, strengthened collaboration in the Guiana Shield, and an international workshop on land use change and national forest biomass assessment in Central Africa.

Finally, the newsletter takes note of two videos, one highlighting REDD+ in Latin America, and the second highlighting progress made in the national forest inventory in Panama. [Publication: UN-REDD Newsletter – August 2014]
