unredd1 September 2014: The UN Collaborative Programme on Reducing Emissions from Deforestation (UN-REDD) has released the September edition of its newsletter, which highlights stakeholder engagement and the recognition of the rights of indigenous peoples in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Cote d’Ivoire.

Also in sub-Saharan Africa, the newsletter takes note of a workshop on archiving and data processing meant to support national forest monitoring in the Republic of the Congo.

The bulletin also features national achievements for REDD+ including the use of web-based Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for national forest monitoring in Argentina and Ecuador as well as training on greenhouse gas (GHG) inventories in Latin America. It also profiles a meeting on free prior and informed consent (FPIC) held in Paraguay.

The newsletter further announces the release of a training video on REDD+ and gender issues, the launch of the self-selection process for civil society organization representatives to the UN-REDD board, and the publication of a sourcebook on REDD+ that supports the development of academic programmes.
