© UN-REDD23 October 2009: The UN Programme on reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation (UN-REDD Programme) hosted a side event during the World Forestry Congress, which took place in Buenos Aires, Argentina, from 18-23 October 2009. The side event showcased the UN-REDD Programme’s support to country efforts to get ready for REDD and to develop requisite capacity for implementation.

Representatives from Viet Nam, Panama and Tanzania reported on their countries’ progress towards REDD readiness, and Peter Dewees, World Bank, presented on recent developments with the Forest Carbon Partnership Facility and the Forest Investment Programme. The side event delivered the message that REDD is doable and offers a new opportunity for boosting forest management that is environmentally, socially and economically sustainable.
