September 2012: The September issue of the UN Global Compact Bulletin features: the launch of new resources during World Water Week 2012; the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20) Corporate Sustainability Forum; and Global Compact Task Force Guidance for Business Engagement with Indigenous Peoples.
At World Water Week, which took place in Stockholm, Sweden, from 27-29 August 2012, the Global Compact’s CEO Water Mandate initiative launched a global Water Action Hub, an online platform for companies, governments, NGOs and other stakeholders on a range of critical water projects in specific river basins around the world. The initiative also launched a step-by-step Guide to Water Resource Collective Action.
The Bulletin also notes that the Global Compact Office has prepared a summary of media coverage of the Rio+20 Corporate Sustainability Forum, noting that coverage was extensive, totaling hundreds of articles, editorials, blog posts and broadcasts. Key messages highlighted in the media included that business is playing a bigger role in advancing sustainable development than ever before, and that corporate leaders are increasingly supporting the sustainability agenda.
Finally, the Bulletin highlights that a group of Global Compact LEAD companies has established a task force to guide businesses in respecting and supporting the rights set out in the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP).
