17 March 2010: The UN Forum on Climate Change Mitigation, Fuel Efficiency and Sustainable Development of Urban Transport met from 16-17 March 2010, in Seoul, Republic of Korea, in preparation for the 18th session of the UN Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD).

CSD 18, which will meet in New York, US, from 3-14 May 2010, is scheduled to carry out a global review of environmental progress made in the implementation of decisions pertaining to transport and sustainable development, along with the additional thematic issues of chemicals, waste management, mining, and the ten year framework of programmes on sustainable consumption and production patterns.

The Forum discussed technical and policy options to enhance public transport and curb greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, public private partnerships, financing public transport in developing countries, and business models for green growth, among others. The expected outcomes are, inter alia, the identification of concrete policy options and practical measures to achieve improvements in transport sustainability, a comprehensive assessment of emerging technology options to do so, and documented case studies of good practices at local and national levels.
