A press conference on a Jordan UNCT meeting highlighted that the UN’s support to Jordan has evolved from a largely humanitarian operation responding to the impacts of the Syria crisis, towards a more developmental approach that seeks to support the country to achieve the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and Jordan Vision 2025, a national vision and strategy for the country.

It also notes that the UN Sustainable Development Framework, the strategic planning framework of cooperation between the Government of Jordan and the UN, demonstrates the commitment of the UN to work towards a more integrated approach.

25 October 2017: At a UN Country Team (UNCT) meeting in Jordan, UN entities highlighted that the UN’s support to Jordan has evolved from a largely humanitarian operation responding to the impacts of the Syria crisis, towards a more developmental approach that seeks to support the country to achieve the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and Jordan Vision 2025, a national vision and strategy for the country.

At the meeting, which convened on 25 October 2017, the UNCT committed to: support Jordan in achieving its development objectives; assist in strengthening national institutions to enhance performance and improve capacities to deliver on Jordan 2025 and the SDGs; enhance individuals’ knowledge of rights, and access to information, education, skills, capacities and services; support the creation of platforms and spaces for engaging people, especially women and youth, in political, economic, environmental and social processes; and support Jordan to respond to the refugee crisis. It also indicated that it would ‘Deliver as One’ (DAO) to support Jordan to an accelerated path towards the SDGs, in order to be a model of DAO in the region.

The UNCT also considered the UN Sustainable Development Framework (UNSDF) 2018-2022, the strategic planning framework of cooperation between the Government of Jordan and the UN. It noted that the UNSDF demonstrates the commitment of the UN to work towards a more integrated approach and an enhanced humanitarian and development nexus.

According to Jordan’s Voluntary National Review (VNR) presented at the 2017 session of the UN High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF), Jordan 2025 is in line with the SDGs and the 2030 Agenda, as are its Executive Development Programmes (EDPs) that translate Jordan 2025 into actionable and measurable development programmes.

The UNCT in Jordan consists of 17 UN agencies, funds, and programmes. The UNCT works to ensure inter-agency coordination and decision-making at the country level, and delivery of tangible results in support of the national development and humanitarian agenda.
