7 March 2013: The UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR) has announced that representatives of UN agencies, funds and programmes have agreed to the UN Plan of Action on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) for Resilience. The Plan will accelerate the integration of DRR into all UN country-level operations.

According to UNISDR, the Plan brings multiple partners together to implement the Hyogo Framework for Action (HYA) and will help ensure cross-UN agency support for mainstreaming DRR. UNISDR reports that agreement of the Plan indicates the UN is introducing more accountability around risk management.

The Plan was presented by UNISDR Chief, Margareta Wahlström, to the UN’s 29-member High Level Committee on Programmes. According to UNISDR, the Plan should also provide momentum for UNISDR’s ongoing consultations on a post-Hyogo global framework on DRR.
