Theme Selected for UNCCD COP 11

The Secretariat of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) has announced that the theme for the upcoming eleventh session of its Conference of the Parties (COP 11) will be, 'A stronger UNCCD for a Land-Degradation Neutral World.'

unccd1116 July 2013: The Secretariat of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) has announced that the theme for the upcoming eleventh session of its Conference of the Parties (COP 11) will be, ‘A stronger UNCCD for a Land-Degradation Neutral World.’

COP 11 will convene from 16-27 September 2013 in Windhoek, Namibia. Sessions are anticipated to focus on: financing, knowledge brokering and the outcome from the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20) on desertification, land degradation and drought (DLDD). The COP will also build on the results of the second and third UNCCD scientific conferences, and will conduct a mid-term review of the implementation of the 10-Year Strategy of the UNCCD (2008-2018).
