November 2002: Participants considered the future of the Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD) at a side event convened during the 57th session of the UN General Assembly’s follow-up discussion about the WSSD.

The Stakeholder Forum for Our Common Future organized this event, during which participants noted that the coming months prior to the CSD’s organizational session offer the opportunity to consider what, “in an ideal world,” the CSD could become. Questions to be considered before then include: What issues should be focused on? Who should be at the table? and How should the process function? A report on the side event can be accessed through http://www.earthsummit2002.org/es/issues/Governance/governance.htm. See also the Stakeholder Forum for Our Common Future’s November 2002 report entitled “Post-Johannesburg: The Future of The UN Commission on Sustainable Development,” accessed through the same Internet address.
