unep_undesaSeptember 2015: The Interagency Task Team (IATT) for Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) opened the process of composing the ten-member multi-stakeholder Advisory Group that will comprise part of the Technology Facilitation Mechanism (TFM). Applications are being accepted from civil society, the private sector, and the scientific community until 18 October 2015.

The UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) and the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) invited applications on behalf of the IATT.

UN Member States decided to establish the TFM in the Addis Ababa Action Agenda (AAAA) and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and it was launched at the UN Summit on Sustainable Development on 25 September 2015.

Per these agreements, the TFM includes three elements: a UN IATT on STI; a “collaborative annual multi-stakeholder forum” on STI for the SDGs; and an online platform as a gateway for information on existing STI initiatives, mechanisms and programs.

To prepare for the annual multi-stakeholder forum, and to develop the online platform, the UN Secretary-General will select ten representatives from civil society, the private sector and the scientific community, considering geographical and gender balance, as well as a mix of disciplinary expertise, to incorporate science, technology and innovation aspects across the full range of the sustainable development agenda.

Representatives will be appointed for periods of two years. [TFM Webpage] [Application Form] [Applications Submitted]
