7 February 2012: The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), French Development Agency (AFD) and Institute for Sustainable Development and International Relations (IDDRI) have published a book titled, “Development, the Environment and Food: Towards Agricultural Change?” This book examines the diversity of food and agricultural issues.

The book was launched on the sidelines of the 12th Delhi Sustainable Development Summit (DSDS 2012), held in New Delhi, India, from 2-4 February 2012. It is part of the series, A Planet for Life, an annual publication on sustainable development. The book is edited by Pierre Jacquet, Chief Economist of AFD, R. K. Pachauri, Director-General of TERI and Chairman of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), and Laurence Tubiana, Director of IDDRI.

It focuses on, inter alia, the role of agriculture for development, opportunities for investment in agricultural lands, and the relationship between agriculture and the environment in a time of climate change and resource scarcities. It shows that issues of food security go beyond the agricultural sector, and raises awareness of the need to change the current representations of agriculture, the visions that guide projects and the policies regulating the agriculture sector. It also contains case studies from all five continents, such as the development of organic agriculture in Thailand and reforms to agricultural policies in Europe, North America and South America.
