13 April 2013: Sanitation and Water for All (SWA) participated in the AfricaSan East-African meeting, which was convened by the African Ministers’ Council on Water (AMCOW). The meeting reviewed implementation of e-Thekwini commitments and sanitation action plans, and identified ways to make progress ahead of AfricaSan 4, scheduled to take place in May 2014.
The AfricaSan East-African Meeting, which took place in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from 12-13 April 2013, provided an opportunity for exploring ways in which the objectives of the e-Thekwini and SWA High Level Meeting (HLM) objectives can complement each other.
In the session on the SWA HLM commitments, participants highlighted that: the HLM and AfricaSan process have different impacts and bring added value; the processes are highly complimentary; opportunities exist to better align the processes; and alignment will be powerful for high-level advocacy.
AMCOW is a specialized committee for water and sanitation in the African Union (AU). [SWA Press Release]
