9 February 2015: The 2nd meeting of the fourth session of the structured expert dialogue (SED 4-2) took place in conjunction with the eighth part of the second session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on the Durban Platform for Enhanced Action. At its final meeting, the SED completed its work by addressing, in a balanced manner, all remaining inputs to the 2013–2015 review, focusing on information sources other than those of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).

The meeting, which took place on 8-9 February 2015, in Geneva, Switzerland, also addressed information that has been published after the cut-off dates of the IPCC Fifth Assessment Report (AR5) and identified information gaps.

On 8 February, the meeting was opened by Tomasz Chruszczow, Chair of the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA), who focused on theme 1 of the review (the adequacy of the long-term global goal), and Amena Yauvoli, Chair of the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI), who focused on theme 2 of the review (progress achieved towards the long-term global goal).

Participants then heard presentations from: the Adaptation Committee (AC); the SBI Chair; the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD); the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD); and the Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN).

On 9 February, in the morning, the meeting focused on regional information on observed impacts of climate change. Participants heard presentations from: Leonard Nurse, Chairman of the Board of Governors, Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre (CCCCC); Diane McFadzien, Climate Change Advisor, Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP); Lars-Otto Reiersen, Executive Secretary, Arctic Monitoring and Assessing Secretariat; and Sonja Vermeulen, Head of Research, CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS).

In addition, Clifford Polycarp, Green Climate Fund (GCF), provided an update on the operationalization of the Fund.

In the afternoon, Deon Terblanche, Director of the Atmospheric Research and Environment Branch, World Meteorological Organization (WMO), on behalf of Jerry Lengoasa, WMO Deputy Secretary-General, presented updated information published after the cutoff dates for literature to be considered for AR5.

As mandated by the Subsidiary Bodies at their 41st session, the report of SED 4 will be available by 20 March 2015. The final factual report of the SED, including a technical summary, will be prepared by the SED co-facilitators with the assistance of the UNFCCC Secretariat, and will be available by 4 April 2015. These two reports will serve as input to the work of the Joint Contact Group on the 2013-2015 review when it meets in June 2015, during the 42nd session of the Subsidiary Bodies. The Joint Contact Group is expected to formulate recommendations to the Conference of the Parties (COP) on the 2013-2015 review.
