step-logo12 June 2014: The Solving the E-Waste Problem (StEP) Initiative has released a white paper outlining StEP’s position on e-waste related issues, including science-based recommendations on e-waste. The white paper, titled ‘Recommendations for Standards Development for Collection, Storage, Transport and Treatment of E-waste,’ also provides guidance to stakeholders and decision makers.

Governments, agencies and companies around the world are currently grappling with a growing e-waste problem, according to the paper. To address this challenge, StEP recommends a unified set of comprehensive standards to address the collection, transport, storage and treatment of electrical and electronic equipment at end-of-life. The paper includes a set of recommendations for standards development, which could be included in a standard or used to form the foundation of a set of standards.

StEP says the recommendations are intended for adoption by leaders of organizations looking for best practices in e-waste management and for policy makers seeking guidance on the development of new regulations. [StEP Press Release] [StEP Initiative White Paper]
