StEP Announces E-Waste Academy for Managers

Solving the E-Waste Problem (StEP) has announced that its E-Waste Academy – Managers Edition (EWAM) will be held in El Salvador in 2014 and is calling for applications.

The academy targets policy makers, government officials and representatives of small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) active in e-waste recycling.

step-logo15 August 2013: Solving the E-Waste Problem (StEP) has announced that its E-Waste Academy – Managers Edition (EWAM) will be held in El Salvador in 2014 and is calling for applications. The academy targets policy makers, government officials and representatives of small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) active in e-waste recycling.

EWAM will be hosted by the Basel Convention Regional Centre for Central America and Mexico (BCRC-CAM), based in El Salvador, from 31 March-4 April 2014. Topics will include: transboundary e-waste flows and international e-waste governance; legislation review, policy and regulatory approaches and tools; recycling standards; financing and business models, including take-back system design; eco-design and design for re-use and recycling (DfR); corporate social responsibility (CSR); extended producer responsibility (EPR); environment and public health issues; technological developments in material recovery and disposal technologies; and formal and informal recycling of e-waste.

The deadline for applications is 15 October 2013.

StEP is an initiative with over 50 members from industry, international organizations, governments, NGOs and academia that aims to find solutions to e-waste, in order to reduce environmental risks and enhance development. [StEP Website] [E-Waste Academy Webpage]
