UNFCCC16 May 2014: The UNFCCC Secretariat has published a note detailing the status of reporting by Parties contained in Annex I of the Convention (FCCC/SBI/2014/INF.5). All 44 Annex I Parties have submitted their sixth National Communications (NC6s).

The Secretariat reports that, as of 15 May 2014, 42 of the first Biennial Reports (BR1s) have been received. The Conference of the Parties (COP) had set the deadline for submitting NC6s and BR1s to 1 January 2014. Twenty-six NC6s and 21 BR1s were submitted by the due date. All NC6s and BR1s received by the Secretariat have been posted to the UNFCCC website.

The note also provides information on the review status of the NC6s and BR1s. The Secretariat is responsible for coordinating in-depth, in-country reviews of National Communications submitted by Annex I Parties that are also Parties to the Kyoto Protocol. By 12 May 2014, 15 of these reviews had been organized for NC6s.

Countries with greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions of less than 50 Mt carbon dioxide equivalent (excepting Annex II countries) are subject to centralized reviews of their NC6s. The Secretariat has organized centralized reviews for the following ten parties: Croatia, Cyprus, Estonia, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Malta, Monaco, Slovakia and Slovenia.
