SPREP, SPC, UNEP Develop TOR for Pacific IAS Advisory Group

The Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP), Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) and the UN Environment Programme's (UNEP) sub-regional office drafted a Terms of Reference for a Pacific Invasive Alien Species (IAS) Advisory Group.

SPREP30 October 2014: The Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP), Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) and the UN Environment Programme’s (UNEP) sub-regional office drafted a Terms of Reference for a Pacific Invasive Alien Species (IAS) Advisory Group.

Participants at the Pacific Island Forum requested the formation of the Group, which aims to support enhanced plans of actions for addressing IAS across the Pacific region and across different sectors. The group will also provide advice to Pacific leaders on IAS management and work to strengthen collaboration between the Council of Regional Agencies of the Pacific.

The Third International Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS) recommended action on invasive species in its outcome document, the Samoa Pathway. [SPREP Press Release]
