SPREP Launches Second Edition of Pacific Islands Framework for Action on Climate Change

The Pacific Islands Framework for Action on Climate Change (PIFACC) for 2006-2015 aims to strengthen climate change action in the region by raising awareness of climate change and by providing guidance on the design and implementation of climate change measures, and on the development of national and regional sustainable development strategies.

15 September 2011: The Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP) has announced the launch of the Second Edition of the Pacific Islands Framework for Action on Climate Change (PIFACC) for 2006-2015. The Framework was launched in Apia, Samoa, on the sidelines of the 22nd SPREP meeting.

According to SPREP, the purpose of the framework is to strengthen climate change action in the region by raising awareness of climate change and providing guidance on the design and implementation of climate change measures, and on the development of national and regional sustainable development strategies.

PIFACC also includes a monitoring and evaluation framework available on different themes, including: implementing tangible, on-the-ground adaptation measures; governance and decision making; improving understanding of climate change; education, training and awareness; mitigation of global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions; and partnerships and cooperation.
