SPREP Assists in Pacific Preparations for UNCCD COP 10

The Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP) convened a training event in relation to the agenda of the upcoming 10th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 10) to the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD).

South Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP)1 September 2011: The Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP) is assisting Pacific countries to prepare for the upcoming tenth session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), by providing negotiation training and facilitating agreement on negotiating positions.

The training convened from 29 August-1 September 2011, in Apia, Samoa, and involved 25 people from 13 countries. Discussions focused on the impact of land degradation on the Pacific region, in relation to the COP 10 agenda, which is scheduled to convene in Changwon City, Republic of Korea, from 10-21 October 2011. Participants also received negotiation training, including training on formulating position statements, as well as media and communications training. [SPREP Press Release]
