SPREP7 November 2012: The Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP) has announced that it will convene two, two-week vocational training courses on environmentally sound and practical waste management techniques for Pacific islanders in 2013. Nominations are now invited and should be submitted to SPREP by 30 November 2012.

SPREP says the first course, from 4-15 March 2013, will cover waste management techniques, including policy and strategic approaches to integrated solid waste management, hazardous waste management, and other key waste management challenges facing the Pacific. The second course, from 15-26 April 2013, will focus on landfill and dump site management, and cover leachate treatment and management, and environmental monitoring.
