A number of datasets within the Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC), including those for pests, plant genetic resources and crop production, have been identified as suitable for Geographical Information Systems (GIS) mapping.
These datasets will be combined with other environmental datasets, such as climate and landcover, to assess their current distribution and potential future distribution under various climate change scenarios.
1 June 2012: The Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) convened a training session and consultation with Fiji’s Ministry of Primary Industries, as well as agriculture and forestry personnel, on spatial information needs to inform decision making. The session covered information and best practices in applying Geographical Information Systems (GIS) to help identify and monitor climate change and disaster risks in the agriculture and forestry sectors.
