SPC, New Zealand Train Fiji and Tuvalu Biosecurity Staff

Convened in Suva, Fiji, the training focused on pest and disease identification with regard to managing risks related to trade in agricultural products.

According to SPC, the training is part of New Zealand's ongoing efforts to improve the diagnostic capabilities of the biosecurity staff in Fiji, Samoa, Tonga, Vanuatu, Tuvalu and Solomon Islands in collaboration with the Museum Victoria, Australia, and Landcare Research, New Zealand.

SPC15 June 2012: The Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC), in collaboration with the New Zealand Ministry of Agriculture and the Biosecurity Authority of Fiji, have provided training to Fiji and Tuvalu biosecurity staff in managing risks related to trade in agricultural products.

The training, which convened from 11-14 June 2012, in Suva, Fiji, focused on pest and disease identification, and was attended by 15 officers from the two countries. According to SPC, the training is part of New Zealand’s ongoing efforts to improve the diagnostic capabilities of the biosecurity staff in Fiji, Samoa, Tonga, Vanuatu, Tuvalu and Solomon Islands in collaboration with the Museum Victoria, Australia, and Landcare Research, New Zealand.
